This text is an excerpt from a science fiction which gives us an imaginary account of life on the planet Venus. It touchingly narrates the keen expectations of the children of Venus who eagerly wait for the sun to appear after seven years, but only for an hour. The deviation of the text from what we know as scientific fact only adds to the imaginative element of the tale.

“āĻ“āĻš, āĻĻেāĻ–, āĻĻেāĻ–।” āϏে āĻ•াঁāĻĒāϤে āĻ•াঁāĻĒāϤে āĻŦāϞāϞ।

The children gathered slowly to look at her opened palm.

āĻŦাāϚ্āϚাāϰা āϧীāϰে āϧীāϰে āϤাāĻĻেāϰ āĻ–োāϞা āϤাāϞুāϟি āĻĻেāĻ–āϤে āϜāĻĄ়ো āĻšāϝ়েāĻ›িāϞ।

In the centre of it was a single large raindrop.

āĻāϰ āĻ•েāύ্āĻĻ্āϰে āĻ›িāϞ āĻāĻ•āϟি āĻŦৃāĻšāϤ āĻŦৃāώ্āϟিāϰ āĻĢোāϟা।

The girl began to cry, looking at it.

āĻŽেāϝ়েāϟি āĻāϟাāϰ āĻĻিāĻ•ে āϤাāĻ•িāϝ়ে āĻ•াঁāĻĻāϤে āϞাāĻ—āϞ।

The children glanced quickly at the sky.

āĻŦাāϚ্āϚাāϰা āφāĻ•াāĻļেāϰ āĻĻিāĻ•ে āϤাāĻĄ়াāϤাāĻĄ়ি āϤাāĻ•াāϞো।

A few cold drops fell on their noses and their cheeks and their mouths.

āĻ•āϝ়েāĻ•āϟা āĻ াāύ্āĻĄা āĻĢোঁāϟা āϤাāĻĻেāϰ āύাāĻ•, āĻ—াāϞ āĻāĻŦং āϤাāĻĻেāϰ āĻŽুāĻ–ে āĻĒāĻĄ়āϞ।

The sun faded behind a cloud of mist.

āĻ•ুāϝ়াāĻļাāϰ āĻŽেāϘেāϰ āφāĻĄ়াāϞে āϏূāϰ্āϝ āĻŽ্āϞাāύ āĻšāϝ়ে āĻ—েāϞ।

A cool wind blew around them.

āϤাāĻĻেāϰ āϚাāϰāĻĒাāĻļে āĻļীāϤāϞ āĻŦাāϤাāϏ āĻŦāχāϞ।

They turned and slowly walked towards their underground houses.

āϤাāϰা āϘুāϰে āφāϏ্āϤে āφāϏ্āϤে āϤাāĻĻেāϰ āĻূāĻ—āϰ্āĻāϏ্āĻĨ āĻŦাāĻĄ়িāϰ āĻĻিāĻ•ে āϚāϞāϞ।

Their smiles had vanished.

āϤাāĻĻেāϰ āĻšাāϏি āĻ…āĻĻৃāĻļ্āϝ āĻšāϝ়ে āĻ—েāϞ।

A boom of thunder startled them.

āĻŦāϜ্āϰেāϰ āĻ—āϰ্āϜāύ āϤাāĻĻেāϰ āϚāĻŽāĻ•ে āĻĻিāϞ।

They tumbled upon each other and ran. “Oh, oh”.

āϤাāϰা āĻāĻ•ে āĻ…āĻĒāϰāĻ•ে āϧাāĻ•্āĻ•া āĻŽেāϰে āĻĻৌāĻĄ়ে āĻ—েāϞ। “āĻ“āĻš, āĻ“āĻš”

Lightning struck all around them.

āϚাāϰāĻĻিāĻ•ে āĻŦāϜ্āϰāĻĒাāϤ āĻšāϝ়েāĻ›িāϞ।

The sky darkened into midnight in a flash.

āφāĻ•াāĻļ āĻŽāϧ্āϝāϰাāϤেāϰ āĻ…āύ্āϧāĻ•াāϰে āĻŽāϤ āĻ…āύ্āϧāĻ•াāϰ āĻšāϝ়ে āĻ—েāϞ āĻŽুāĻšূāϰ্āϤāĻŽāϧ্āϝে।

The children stood at the doorway to the underground houses until it was raining hard.

āĻŦাāϚ্āϚাāϰা āĻĒ্āϰāϚāĻŖ্āĻĄ āĻŦৃāώ্āϟি āύা āĻšāĻ“āϝ়া āĻ…āĻŦāϧি āĻূāĻ—āϰ্āĻāϏ্āĻĨ āĻŦাāĻĄ়িāϰ āĻĻāϰāϜাāϝ় āĻĻাঁāĻĄ়িāϝ়ে āĻ›িāϞ।

Then they closed the doors and heard the gigantic sound of the rain falling everywhere.

āϤাāϰāĻĒāϰে āϤাāϰা āĻĻāϰāϜা āĻŦāύ্āϧ āĻ•āϰে āĻĻিāϝ়ে āϏāϰ্āĻŦāϤ্āϰ āĻŦৃāώ্āϟি āĻĒāĻĄ়াāϰ āĻŦিāĻļাāϞ āφāĻ“āϝ়াāϜ āĻļুāύāϤে āĻĒেāϞ।

“Will it be seven more years before the sun comes out again?”

“āφāĻŦাāϰ āϏূāϰ্āϝ āĻŦেāϰ āĻšāĻ“āϝ়াāϰ āφāϰāĻ“ āϏাāϤ āĻŦāĻ›āϰ āĻšāĻŦে āĻ•ি?”

“Yes.”

“āĻš্āϝাঁ.”

With pale faces they looked out of the window at the world that was raining now, raining and raining steadily.

āĻĢ্āϝাāĻ•াāĻļে āĻŽুāĻ–েāϰ āϏাāĻĨে āϤাāϰা āϜাāύাāϞাāϰ āĻŦাāχāϰেāϰ  āϜāĻ—āϤে āϤাāĻ•িāϝ়ে āĻ›িāϞ āϝেāĻ–াāύে āĻŦৃāώ্āϟি āĻšāϚ্āĻ›িāϞ, āĻŦৃāώ্āϟি āĻšāϚ্āĻ›িāϞ āĻāĻŦং āĻ…āĻŦিāϰাāĻŽāĻাāĻŦে āĻŦৃāώ্āϟি āĻšāϚ্āĻ›িāϞ।
